On Friday, April 5th, 2019, a presentation was made at the College of Nuclear Science and Technology by Professor Emilio MINGUEZ of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
The vice dean of the College of Nuclear Science and Technology; staff of teaching affairs office as well as postgraduate students, international PhD and Master students attended this presentation.
The presentation focused on nuclear research and the education program of nuclear engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Professor MINGUEZ began by thanking all participants for attending this presentation and emphasizing the importance of nuclear energy to the environment because Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) do not emit CO2 to the environment compared to the coal and other sources of energy.
He addressed several points concerning research at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, so he first presented energy engineering department with the subjects that are taught there such as thermodynamics, Power Engines, Nuclear Energy, Thermal Power, Physics of Fluids.
Prof. Emilio also introduced the status of nuclear power in his country in terms of the capacity to provide electricity and gave a briefing on nuclear facilities by introducing some companies that manufacture nuclear equipment such as the steam generator.
He also introduced the institute according to the levels of study: two bachelor diplomas in energy engineering or industrial engineering for a period of 4 years; for the master the duration varies from 1 to 1.5 years depending on the level of the student who comes from the bachelor. These students have the opportunity to do an internship in one of the partner companies before the end of their training. The doctorate is for a period of 3 to 4 years in '' Sustainable Energy; Nuclear and Renewable energy''.
Research on nuclear reactors focuses mainly on generation III and III+, but he did not hesitate to point out the low level of his country in terms of nuclear management.
He also talked about some training programs that are open to master's and PhD students.
The presentation was closed in good harmony.
