The discipline of Nuclear Science and Technology was founded in 1958. In 1978, it was granted the authorization points for the master's degree in Nuclear Energy Engineering. In 2010, it was granted the authorization points for doctoral degree in the first-tier discipline of Nuclear Science and Technology. After years of construction, several distinctive research directions were developed, in which, nuclear energy system and nuclear safety are key tasks, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste reprocessing, nuclear technology application and radiation detection are new growth points. The directions are oriented by the major needs of the nuclear industry development as well as the international frontier. There are 29 PhD supervisors and 61 master supervisors in the College of Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST), as well as more than 30 international high-level part-time professors including Chinese and foreign academicians and an International Advisory Council. In the 5th round China Discipline Ranking, the overall strength of our discipline ranked top 3. The undergraduate program of Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology has passed the Engineering Education Accreditation. Over the years, a large number of technical backbones, chief engineers and academicians have been trained for nuclear industry.
With a solid academic foundation, CNST has engaged in nuclear energy research for the longest time and the broadest range. Relying on the key discipline laboratory of "Nuclear Safety and Simulation Technology", CNST has undertaken 500+ scientific research projects of various departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Energy Administration and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. The accumulated funding exceeded 700 million RMB. CNST has achieved important academic achievements and awards in nuclear power safety, simulation, system and performance, won 30+ scientific progress prizes including national-level second-class prizes and provincial or ministerial level first-class prizes. 1,900+ high-level papers published. 150+ invention patents granted.
HEU collaborates fully with China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) to conduct R&D and tackle key technical problems. HEU and CNNC jointly established the China Nuclear Industry Nuclear Safety and Simulation Technology Institute. CNST attracts talents relying on the "Nuclear Power Safety and Simulation" 111 Innovation Base. CNST collaborates closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to build the "Nuclear Education and Training Center". CNST is undertaking the Chinese Government's Atomic Energy Scholarship program, training "Belt and Road" students.
CNST is dedicated to building a world-class high-level personnel training base in the field of nuclear, building an international-level base for fundamental and key scientific research, and cooperating with the industry and the world, to promote the progress of nuclear science and technology and serve the global peaceful use of nuclear energy and technology.
