The discipline of Nuclear Science and Technology was founded in 1958. In 1978, it was granted the authorization points for the master's degree in Nuclear Energy Engineering. In 2010, it was granted as the authorization points for doctoral degree in the first-tier discipline of Nuclear Science and Technology.
After years of construction, several distinctive research directions were developed, in which, nuclear energy system and nuclear safety are key tasks, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste reprocessing, nuclear technology application and radiation detection are new growth points. The directions are oriented by the major needs of the nuclear industry development as well as the international frontier.
With a solid academic foundation, CNST has engaged in nuclear energy research for the longest time and the broadest range. Relying on the key discipline laboratory of "Nuclear Safety and Simulation Technology", CNST has undertaken 500+ scientific research projects of various departments.
We collaborates fully with China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) to conduct R&D and tackle key technical problems. HEU and CNNC jointly established the China Nuclear Industry Nuclear Safety and Simulation Technology Institute. CNST attracts talents relying on the "Nuclear Power Safety and Simulation" 111 Innovation Base. CNST collaborates closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to build the "Nuclear Education and Training Center". CNST is undertaking the Chinese Government's Atomic Energy Scholarship program, training students from all over the world. .
CNST is dedicated to building a world-class high-level personnel training base in the field of nuclear, building an international-level base for fundamental and key scientific research, and cooperating with the industry and the world, to promote the progress of nuclear science and technology and serve the global peaceful use of nuclear energy and technology.
Our primary objective in education is to cultivate first-class innovative scientific research talents in the field of nuclear science and technology with "good quality of thought, strong identification ability and mastery of nuclear science and technology knowledge". With realistic, scientific and rigorous research attitude, good academic ethics and cultivation, team spirit; solid theoretical and systematic expertise in nuclear science and technology disciplines;with ability of academic expression and international academic communication;Be able to engage in scientific research work or independently undertake technical development work, and achieve better research results or practical development results in a certain research direction.
All graduate students are required, not only to have broad and solid theoretical foundations in Mathematics, Nuclear Science and Technology including knowledge of engineering technology and some other related fields, but also possess a systematic and deep insight into the status of international research at the forefront of these disciplines. They need to have the abilities to undertake scientific research topics independently and carry out scientific research and technological development creatively. They should, therefore, be well qualified to follow careers in education, scientific research and development, including management in universities, research institutes, government and other enterprises.
